Ending soon: 20% off upgrade promotion launched for Capture One 22
Update 07 Nov, 2021: Although I wasn’t told initially when this ends a Capture One spokesperson informed me that the offer ends Tuesday 09 November (presumably at midnight Central European time.) The same spokesperson said as a license holder (subscribers automatically upgrade) this is going to be the “best offer” to upgrade to version 22. So if you haven’t decided already, nows the time. Capture One have launched an upgrade promotion for existing perpetual license holders only (those on Capture One Pro 21, Capture One 21 and older versions of the licenses) for those wishing to move on to version 22. The promotion does not apply to anyone buying…

Nikon USA recognises DXOMark’s sensor rating of the Nikon Z7 II
Back in April I reviewed the Nikon Z 7II sensor output for DXOMark (not DxO, the image software people, which is a different company… ), and even though I’m not directly attributed as the writer of the piece, it’s still great to see a mention on the Nikon (USA) site. Thanks to the team at DXOMark for the review, which you can read here. B&H Photo special on Capture One Pro downloads
US retailer B&H Photo has currently a special price on my favourite RAW converter, Capture One Pro. It’s selling a single user license* (with download emailed over 3-7 days) for $179, instead of the regular price of $299. The retailer is also offering (presumably through the same license) to upgrade to version 22 for free, when it’s launched later in the year (scheduled for December). An earlier version of this stated the license was available immediately, however the site says it will be emailed over 3-7 days. The article has been updated to reflect this. *Does not apply to subscriptions, obviously. If you prefer, and it is cheaper to buy a…

Capture One announces significant update to Capture One 21
Capture One A/S announced the latest update to Capture One 21 this week. This is a major update and likely the last before version 22 is released, which is expected in December. The full list of improvements can be seen in the release notes below. Besides bringing back the Exporter tools in the main window, performance improvements and a new Easy Magic Brush tool, the new update (14.4) adds RAW support for the recently introduced Fujifilm GFX 50S II and Nikon Z fc. Capture One finally adds support for the 2014 Pentax 645Z medium format camera, which uses the same sensor as the P1 IQ250 and Hasselblad H5 50Dc DBs. There’s…

Capture One starts pre-sale of version 22
Capture One has started their pre-sale campaign of perpetual licensing for version 22 (the current version is 21). I will say I’m usually opposed to pre-sales, as you’re enticed to buy only to find later that you could have waited for a discount. But on this occasion if you’re looking to buy version 21 for the first time, then it’s a pretty decent deal – you’ll get to use the same license for version 21 as for 22 and benefit from the new features (some of which have been announced already such as HDR merging and Panorama Stitching). So it’s good deal but it’s only available till 04 October, 6PM ET.…

Canon EOS R3 to be launched soon
The Canon EOS R3 will be with us shortly and it marks a significant change in Canon’s line up – serial leaker Nokishita has stated that the resolution is 24MP. Given Nokishita Camera is likely a retailer in Japan, and/or has access (perhaps as a reseller) to one of the big online stores, the native resolution can no longer be contested. Evidently, Canon is feeling the pressure from Sony as this is destined to give the Sony a9 and a9 II a run for the money (or perhaps not at $5,999, at least initially anyway). As a sports-oriented camera, the EOS R3 likely won’t disappoint but what does that say…

Canon EOS R3 accessories to be launched with new camera
In addition to the Canon EOS R3 and two new lenses mentioned yesterday, according to serial leaker Nokishita, there’s also a number of dedicated accessories that will be announced alongside. Most of these will likely be for the new multi-function ‘digitised accessory shoe’, which is built-into the hotshoe on the EOS R3. From Tascam’s recent announcement for the up-coming CA-XLR2d-C audio adapter, we know the device allows direct digital audio transmission via a digitised accessory shoe with built-in AD converter. So it’s fair to presume Canon will be offering something along similar lines with XLR support, perhaps offering as many as three different versions (ER-XX). I also expect a directional stereo…

Canon EOS R3 and two lenses to be announced soon
According to a well-known source*, the Canon EOS R3 and two new lenses, a RF16mm F2.8 and RF100-400mm are expected to be announced shortly; I would expect in the next two weeks. Both lenses are likely to be non L-series, but that’s not confirmed. Canon hasn’t introduced a 16mm prime before in its history that I can recall, so this could follow one of several themes. Manufacturer’s like to follow established trends, but the RF system seems to be about breaking with the past. The most outlandish scenario would be a tilt-shift, replacing the current 17mm TSE F4L. The grapevine has been talking of an autofocus TSE, but with a…
