CFexpress Type B cards: Which to choose for the Canon EOS R5 and Nikon Z8?
CFexpress (Type B) cards are expensive, so choosing the right type is an important decision. As both the Canon EOS R5 and Nikon Z8 have a second SDXC UHS-I/II compatible card slot I suspect many users have simply opted for to use their existing cards. For stills, it’s not too difficult a decision and the faster UHS-II cards (V60 and V90) can also handle the bandwidth required for some of the lower-end video options with the V90-rated cards being the most capable. However, to access the high bit-rate options, including 8K and high-frame video, CFexpress is required. Prices of CFexpress have tumbled in recent months and even the most affordable…

DXOMark compares Dynamic Range between Nikon Z7 II, Sony A7R IV and Canon EOS R5
DXOMark has just published the results for the Nikon Z7 II and compared them with the Canon EOS R5 and the Sony A7R IV, which are all fine cameras with excellent image quality. Most readers will be interested in the dynamic range, as it has a more meaningful effect on image quality at all ISOs than noise levels, especially low ISOs. However, as DR is reported at the measured ISO by DXOMark it can be difficult to decipher from the graphs what it is at the manufacturer settings – they are after all what you set on the camera. Canon EOS R5 Specifications
The Canon EOS R5 takes over as the flagship in the mirrorless EOS R lineup, but the specification is curiously biased towards video rather than stills. An AA filter means the 45MP resolution the resolving power will be affected, but we’ll have to wait for tests to see by just how much. It’s also rather expensive, being quite a bit more than the 60MP Sony A7R IV. Nevertheless, it has a hi-res 5.76 million dot EVF, like that of the Panasonic S1 series and Leica SL2 plus it has the interesting Bluetooth v5.0 spec which should mean compatibility with wireless headphones. If this is the equivalent of the Canon EOS…

Canon EOS R5 and six further lenses to be announced soon
Canon is expected to formally reveal the full-frame Canon EOS R5 this Thursday, along with a previously announced lens (RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM) and two teleconverters (RF 1.4x, RF 2x) during a live-streamed event, starting at 2pm CEST. According to Canon Japan, there are a further six RF lenses that are expected to be announced ‘under-development’, with the aim of having them introduced by the year-end. Some of the camera’s specifications have been revealed already, including full sensor-width 8K RAW at 29.97 fps and 4K up to 119.88 fps in either 4:2:2 10-bit Canon log or 4:2:2 in 10-bit HDR PQ. Despite announcing some of the video features,…
