DxOMark returns to lens testing
After a break of several months DxOMark has returned to testing lenses. The first model to have the data published is the new Z-mount Nikon Nikkor Z 50mm F1.8 S for the mirrorless Nikon Z 6 and Z 7 cameras.
For the time being data is only available when mounted on the higher resolution Nikon Z 7 but as that is the highest resolution body of the two it will stress the sensor more and deliver a higher sharpness score and contribute to a higher overall score.
As always though, it pays to look beyond the overall score which is useful as a means to rank the lens against others and take a look at the Sharpness (acutance) graphs and at each aperture, particularly the Lens Profiles. A direct link to the profiles is not possible, but the data for the new Nikkor lens can be found here.
As you might expect from one of the leading lens manufacturers in Japan, the new Nikkor Z 50mm F1.8 S is a well-balanced performer. To read the review in full, head over to the DxOMark website.
