Videos surface of the new Leica M11
Two new videos have surfaced showing some of the design elements on the forthcoming Leica M11. The rear screen is not flush, as I had hoped for but on the plus side the new battery looks large, which bodes well for capacity. Also shown is the rumoured new Visoflex. It is rather boxy looking but it is hinged for overhead viewing and it has built-in dioptric control. At present there are no details on the spec’s but the inferred low-light capabilities are encouraging. https://vimeo.com/661857936 https://vimeo.com/661857745

Canon EOS R3 and two lenses to be announced soon
According to a well-known source*, the Canon EOS R3 and two new lenses, a RF16mm F2.8 and RF100-400mm are expected to be announced shortly; I would expect in the next two weeks. Both lenses are likely to be non L-series, but that’s not confirmed. Canon hasn’t introduced a 16mm prime before in its history that I can recall, so this could follow one of several themes. Manufacturer’s like to follow established trends, but the RF system seems to be about breaking with the past. The most outlandish scenario would be a tilt-shift, replacing the current 17mm TSE F4L. The grapevine has been talking of an autofocus TSE, but with a…

Images leak of the Canon EOS R3 showing fold out screen
Images have leaked of the Canon EOS R3 showing the front and, more importantly, the rear of the camera. If these images are genuine, the EOS R3 has a fully-articulated screen, and possibly a touch-sensitive AF-On button that can be used for focus point selection, like the EOS-1DX Mark III. Although I can’t be sure from this, it also looks as if the memory card door isn’t lockable, like the EOS-1D series. Built-in LAN looks like a possibility and a voice memo feature also seems to be part of the feature set. One further feature that’s apparent, besides the sharing of the EOS-1 battery, is the enormous viewfinder. Let’s hope…

Canon EOS R5 and six further lenses to be announced soon
Canon is expected to formally reveal the full-frame Canon EOS R5 this Thursday, along with a previously announced lens (RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM) and two teleconverters (RF 1.4x, RF 2x) during a live-streamed event, starting at 2pm CEST. According to Canon Japan, there are a further six RF lenses that are expected to be announced ‘under-development’, with the aim of having them introduced by the year-end. Some of the camera’s specifications have been revealed already, including full sensor-width 8K RAW at 29.97 fps and 4K up to 119.88 fps in either 4:2:2 10-bit Canon log or 4:2:2 in 10-bit HDR PQ. Despite announcing some of the video features,…

Sony to introduce new ultra-wide FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM zoom?
Sony seems set to bolster the range with a new high-performance G Master FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM lens for their full-frame and APS-C mirrorless models. If the image is genuine and the maximum aperture is a constant F2.8, then it looks as if Sony will have the world’s fastest ultra-wide 12-24mm zoom; all previous models have been F4 or smaller. Although it looks relatively compact, no further details are available but expect it to be announced sometime next week.

Leica M10-R to be announced soon
The existence of the Leica M10-R with a high resolution CMOS sensor has been known for sometime and was allegedly postponed due to the pandemic. But, according to well-known source Nokishita Camera, the eagerly awaited camera should be announced over the next few days. There’s no word yet on price or availability, or even the actual sensor resolution. Although expected to use a similar 47MP sensor to that found in the Leica SL2, the same was said of the M10 Monochrom, which in the end shipped with a 40MP sensor.
