Eizo announces 30.5-inch ColorEdge Prominence reference monitor with built-in calibration and network features

Eizo has announced a new ‘reference’ DCI-4K (4096 x 2160) HDR (high dynamic range) monitor for post-production work. As this model has the ‘Prominence’ moniker it should not be confused with your typical ColorEdge display for stills and occasional video, even if has built-in hardware calibration. There’s no mention of availability or price as these tend to be special order only – if you have to ask the price you probably can’t afford it – expect to cut a cheque north of £40K.

The new monitor will be displayed at the NAB show in Las Vegas later this month and in the UK at the MP&T show in London the month after.

NEW EIZO ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG1

EIZO releases 30.5-inch true reference monitor with built-in calibration and advanced interfaces for efficient creation workflows

Hakusan, Japan, April 9, 2024 – EIZO Corporation (TSE: 6737) today introduced the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG1 – a 30.5-inch, DCI-4K (4096 x 2160) HDR (high dynamic range) reference monitor for the professional post-production and colour grading workflow. It is the successor of the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146.

EIZO’s extensive experience in developing colour-critical monitor solutions culminated in 2017 with the launch of its flagship ColorEdge PROMINENCE HDR reference monitor. The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG1 continues the legacy of EIZO’s HDR reference monitor line-up by maintaining the high performance and display characteristics of its predecessors, while enhancing technical functionality for efficient video creation.

EIZO’s ColorEdge PROMINENCE are the world’s first true HDR reference monitors to incorporate a built-in calibration sensor. This 2021 Academy Sci-Tech Award-winning technology is built into the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG1 to ensure the screen remains colour accurate over time and streamline colour management so production studios can focus on the creative process. In addition, EIZO’s ColorNavigator 7 colour management software allows users to regularly calibrate and quality control the monitor quickly and reliably.

EIZO’s ColorNavigator Network takes this one step further by providing centralised quality control of ColorEdge monitors for studios with multiple creators and editors working in different locations. An administrator can set the colour modes, schedule automatic self-calibration for monitors with built-in sensors, register or adjust asset management settings, and more – all carried out remotely over the network.

The increasing adoption of video over IP in the post-production and broadcast industries allows for more efficient delivery and management of production data. The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG1 is the first EIZO monitor to support the SMPTE ST 2110 Professional Media Over Managed IP Networks suite of standards. This allows the monitor to be integrated into production environments using IP to facilitate efficient post-production video workflows.

The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG1 is EIZO’s first HDR monitor to support Fixed Rate Link (FRL), the latest signal technology supported in the latest HDMI® specification. FRL is required to receive 12-bit signals, handle higher uncompressed high-resolution data, such as 4K, and take advantage of high-speed bandwidths for compressed video transport over a HDMI connection. This ensures that the monitor works reliably with devices using HDMI signals to manage data throughout the workflow.

The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG1 achieves an exceptionally high brightness of 1000 cd/m2 and contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 to accurately display light and dark content with an engaging level of depth and detail. It supports HLG (hybrid log-gamma) and the PQ (perceptual quantization) curve for displaying and editing broadcast, film, and other video content in HDR.

EIZO will be showing the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG1 for the first time at the NAB Show 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA from April 14 – 17. Visit South Hall Lower, Booth SL8105 for a live demonstration.

It will then be on display in the UK at The Media Production & Technology Show in London, UK from May 15 – 16. Visit the EIZO stand M60 to learn more from one of EIZO’s product experts.
