Black and White Conversion using Capture One Pro

    June 22, 2020 / 1 Comment

Capture One Pro has one of the best (if not the best) B&W conversion options of any software application to date. Here we give you a mini-sampler of its capabilities. Black and white images are probably most authentic and compelling when the original image was conceived with the idea of it being in mono. Typically that means it was originally composed without strong colour influences, but that’s not necessarily so. Take the image above as an example, it was one of a series captured with the 50MP Fujifilm GFX-50R and the 45mm F2.8, equivalent to a FF 35mm, and it works well either in colour or B&W. So how do…

Capture One 20 (internally 13.1.0 ) has been released with a few new features, including a Lightroom catalog import function and support for new camera models. This version supports various camera brands and most up-to-date models, and is priced at US$299, however there are also subscription versions. Black Friday Deals

November 29, 2019 / Comments Off on Black Friday Deals

Black Friday and Cyber Week are exceptional this year, further proof, if any were needed, of the declining sales in high-end camera gear. It’s not just DSLRs that are being pushed, the latest mirrorless models in including the Canon EOS R and RP. The Nikon Z 7 and Z 6 are also included. Still, if you’re in the market for new gear, now is a good time to consider it. Most, if not all of the deals are live already and many have been extended to Cyber Week. Nikon Nikkor Z 58mm F0.95 S Noct: Initial Impressions

    November 24, 2019 / 1 Comment

The Nikkor Z 58mm F0.95 S Noct is one of Nikon’s showcase lenses – a sort of throwback to the early days of Nikon’s interest in optical research. It’s certainly a lens that splits opinions – I’m still not sure exactly how I feel about it – though there’s no denying it’s a beautifully made lens that’s capable of extremely high image quality in all its nuances. You can read additional opinion on this lens here. Build Like other Nikon exotics, it’s delivered in a massively oversized cardboard box, but inside it contains a large Pelican-type case, instead of the more usual soft-padded type. I didn’t weigh the case but…

    Leica SL2 Announced

November 7, 2019 / Comments Off on Leica SL2 Announced

Leica has announced the long-leaked and long-expected update to the full-frame mirrorless SL, the appropriately named SL2. It brings several expected and significant updates to the original Leica SL, including a sensor upgrade from the old 24.2MP unit to a 47MP sensor, similar but not identical in pixel count to that in the Leica Q and that of their technology partner Panasonic and their Lumix DC-S1R camera. Although often overlooked, it’s no secret that the original SL electronics and many of its internal components are made by Panasonic and it’s not difficult to see that the SL2 shares much of its DNA with the Panasonic Lumix DC-S1R. Although the imaging…
