Sony to introduce new ultra-wide FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM zoom?

July 4, 2020 / Comments Off on Sony to introduce new ultra-wide FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM zoom?

Sony seems set to bolster the range with a new high-performance G Master FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM lens for their full-frame and APS-C mirrorless models. If the image is genuine and the maximum aperture is a constant F2.8, then it looks as if Sony will have the world’s fastest ultra-wide 12-24mm zoom; all previous models have been F4 or smaller. Although it looks relatively compact, no further details are available but expect it to be announced sometime next week.

Leica M10-R to be announced soon

June 26, 2020 / Comments Off on Leica M10-R to be announced soon

The existence of the Leica M10-R with a high resolution CMOS sensor has been known for sometime and was allegedly postponed due to the pandemic. But, according to well-known source Nokishita Camera, the eagerly awaited camera should be announced over the next few days. There’s no word yet on price or availability, or even the actual sensor resolution. Although expected to use a similar 47MP sensor to that found in the Leica SL2, the same was said of the M10 Monochrom, which in the end shipped with a 40MP sensor.

    Fujifilm to announce GF30mm F3.5 R WR

    June 24, 2020 / Comments Off on Fujifilm to announce GF30mm F3.5 R WR

Fujifilm is allegedly preparing to announce the GF30mm F3.5 R WR to add to their GFX range of medium format cameras (GFX100, GFX 50S, GFX 50R), according to a reliable and well-known source. From the specs below it looks to a highly compact design and would fit in between the current GF23mm F4 R LM WR and GF45mm F2.8 R WR. Based on the GFX sensor size of 44 x 33mm, the new GF30mm F3.5 R WR would be the equivalent to a 24mm on full frame 35mm. Key specs: 13 elements in 10 groups (2 aspherical, 2 ED lenses) 0.32m minimum focus distance (0.15x magnification) 58mm filter diameter 84…

    Sony SD card replacement program

June 23, 2020 / Comments Off on Sony SD card replacement program

Sony issued a replacement program (a recall in common parlance) for some SD cards on 18 June, 2020 relating to their SF-M series, as well as their two Tough spec series, the SF-M (T) and SF-G (T). If your cards have an asterisk before the lower of the two serial numbers on the reverse side of the card or start with TR (SF-G Tough only) then your card is unaffected. Although this was reported by DPReview which published US contact details only, if you’re in GB, Ireland, Latvia or Estonia, you can request an SD card exchange from the following link, here. Sony state that recorded footage data on the card…

DXOMark reviews Canon EOS-1D X Mark III sensor

June 22, 2020 / Comments Off on DXOMark reviews Canon EOS-1D X Mark III sensor

Update July 2020: DXOMark, the Paris-based independant lab behind the sensor performance data used throughout the photo-industry, has updated the sensor performance score of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. The new score, which was revised due to an error in the original measurement data, has led to an improved overall DXOMark score of 91, up from 83. With the newly corrected data DXOMark are claiming the Canon EOS-1 D X Mark III sensor now has a wider dynamic range than the Sony a9 II at low ISOs which makes the camera more versatile in a wider range of lighting conditions. Black and White Conversion using Capture One Pro

    June 22, 2020 / 1 Comment

Capture One Pro has one of the best (if not the best) B&W conversion options of any software application to date. Here we give you a mini-sampler of its capabilities. Black and white images are probably most authentic and compelling when the original image was conceived with the idea of it being in mono. Typically that means it was originally composed without strong colour influences, but that’s not necessarily so. Take the image above as an example, it was one of a series captured with the 50MP Fujifilm GFX-50R and the 45mm F2.8, equivalent to a FF 35mm, and it works well either in colour or B&W. So how do…
